Qatar Toastmasters Conducts its 300th Meeting

Sparking young speakers hold peoples breathe as they spoke in the Qatar Open 2011 Youth Public speaking championship finale conducted at Qatar Red Crescent. Young speakers presented their public speaking talents in front of the full strength of the audience in the auditorium. The speeches were inspiring and thoughtful and the guests applauded their talents.

The Qatar Open Youth Public Speaking Championship is organized by Qatar Toastmasters club as part of the community service. This championship is being conducted every year and this is the 13th time this event is being organized for the young students aged between 13and 18 years old.
This championship is aimed at promoting public speaking and leadership talents of young people in Qatar. Qatar Open Youth Public Speaking Championship is a prestigious competition in this category, which is being conducted by Qatar Toastmasters every year. This year it had participation from 14 schools in Qatar. Finalists were selected through two stages of competition. The preliminary round was conducted on 18th Nov at Birla Public School and 64 students participated in it. Semifinal round was conducted on 25th Nov with shortlisted 28 students vying for the championship.  Shortlisted 12 students were selected for the grand finale, to become the Champion Youth Speaker of Qatar for 2011.

This event gave a chance for people to see the true potential of young people in Qatar.  Each contestant displayed unique spectrum of speaking styles. The champion of Qatar Open 2011 is ManulaPramukKodithuvakku from Sri Lankan Stafford International School, and the second prize winner is MeghaMibu from Birla Public School and third prize was won by VivekGhaisas from Al Khore International School.

The chief guest of the event was International Director of Toastmasters organization DTM George Thomas. And the guest of honours were Toastmaster Division E governer TM K Krishnakumar and Area 18 governor TM Sameer Hassan Mousa. Qatar Toastmasters club president TM K Thayalan presided over the function and the contest was chaired by TM Juttas Paul, the chief coordinator of the championship. The coordinators of the event were TM K Thayalan, TM Krishnamurthy Nair, TM Manzoor Mohammed, TM Thomas Joseph, TM Williams Antony and TM Mary Jayaweera.
Qatar Open 2010 champion AdrinaGynachandran spoke about how she could achieve this and the efforts put forth for this while announcing the winner.

This championship was supported by ExxonMobil, Swiss Arabian, SBI Qatar, UAE Exchange, Mannai Corporation, Center point and Velosi as sponsors. The winners of finale were awarded with trophies, certificate and gifts

Gavels Club

A long standing aspiration of Qatar Toastmasters finally succeeded when it started a new Gavels club for the young public speaking and leaders aspirants of Qatar named ‘Qatar Gavels’.

The venue of Qatar Gavels is Stafford International School, Doha. The first demo meeting of Qatar Gavel was conducted on Friday, 16th December 2011. Thanks to KEF Toastmasters, who helped us to conduct the first demo meeting. The occasion was graced by Area Governor TM Sameer Hassan Moosa, Past Division E Governer, TM Subha Anupindi, past Area 18 Governer,  TM Raghavan, QTM President TM K Thayalan, QTM VP-Ed TM Krishnamoorthy and other dignitaries.






P R Campaign

Qatar Toastmasters organized a Public Relations campaign on 2nd December 2011 at Qatar Red Crescent society. The aim or the PR campaign was to generate awareness among the audience of Qatar Open 2011 about Toastmasters International in General and to promote Toastmasters.

International among them. The benefits of  Toastmasters program was explained in details by the campaign volunteers to the audience. Brochure with benefits and contact details of Toastmasters clubs in Qatar was provided to all the participants and audience of Qatar Open championship.

The Public relations campaign generated eagerness among the people to enquire more about the education programs and there were many questions raised in this regards.  In order to promote peoples attention and to identify prospective members, details of interested persons were collected and a lucky draw was conducted along with the PR campaign. The winner was drawn at the end of Qatar Open championship and prize was distributed as well. The public relations campaign was chaired by TM Manzoor P Mohammed, VP Membership of Qatar Toastmasters Club.

 


Youth Leadership Program

Youth Leadership program help teenagers to grow to meet the challenges of adulthood and leadership successfully. Sponsored and conducted by Qatar Toastmasters club, Youth Leadership helps young people build their communication and leadership skills so they may become tomorrow's leaders in business, industry and the community.

Every young person has the potential to become a good communicator and leader, but this potential needs to be developed. The program's unique eight-session, workshop-style design enables participants to develop this potential through practical experience.

Qatar Toastmaster club in association with Stafford International School started the Youth Leadership Program on 23rd of December 2011 with around 20 participants.

Qatar National Day Celebrations

Qatar Toastmasters celebrated Qatar National Day on 18th Dec 2011 on a special meeting conducted to mark the National Day. The theme of the meeting was about Qatar National Day where speakers spoke about Qatar and the how the country has been developing and contributing to their lives. A special cake was cut to mark the celebration at the end of the meeting.
